Description

Cotton-fibre museum board, buffered with calcium carbonate to an alkaline reserve, for mounts, interleaving and the internal structure of archival housings. Buffered board is specified where the object is paper: the reserve neutralises acids migrating out of the object itself and out of the air, and it is the reason a mount cut from museum board does not print a brown line onto a print in thirty years the way a woodpulp mount reliably does. Note the exception, because it matters — buffered board is wrong for protein-based material: wool, silk, leather, feather, and most photographic processes with a gelatin binder. For those, use the unbuffered stock. Four-ply throughout, not a surface paper over a grey core. Packed flat and interleaved in fives.
