Mould-made laid paper for endpapers, doublures and flyleaves, at a substance heavy enough to take the stress at the joint without a tipped reinforcement. Endpapers do structural work that gets overlooked: they carry the board, absorb the shear every time the cover is opened, and they are the first thing to fail in a case binding. That is why the substance and the grain direction are stated and why both are worth checking against the job before cutting. Mould-made rather than machine-made, so the sheet has a genuine laid pattern from the mould and four soft deckle edges rather than a pressed imitation. Neutral pH, internally sized. Grain runs the short dimension; check it against your text block before cutting, because a cross-grained endpaper will cockle at the first paste.
