A supply house, not a marketplace

Syngyns is a trade supplier of bookbinding, conservation and archival storage materials. We hold stock in Frisco, Texas, we pick and pack it ourselves, and we ship it across the United States to hand binders, paper conservators, university special collections, county records offices, museums, small presses and a steady number of people who found the craft late and take it seriously.

Why a supply house still needs to exist

Most of what this trade uses is not difficult to manufacture. It is difficult to source correctly. A sheet of board that is 2 mm and calendered behaves nothing like a sheet that is 2 mm and laminated, and the difference only shows twenty years later when the fore-edge starts to delaminate in someone’s hands. A cloth that takes PVA will not take starch paste. A buffered board protects a document and damages a photograph. None of that is visible in a product photograph, and none of it survives being bought from a general marketplace listing where the specification is three bullet points written by someone who has never opened a press.

So the job of a supply house is not to have the widest catalogue. It is to be able to answer the question which one, and why — and to have made the decision already, on your behalf, about what is worth stocking at all. Everything on this site is something we would specify. There is no long tail of near-misses kept in the catalogue because someone might buy one.

What we stock, and what we deliberately do not

Nine departments: bench tools, presses and finishing equipment, covering materials, board and paper, adhesives, sewing materials, archival enclosures, conservation instruments, and finishing and tooling. Within them, roughly fifty products and a hundred and thirteen sizes and variants, running from a pack of needles to a floor-standing press.

What we do not stock is as deliberate. Every adhesive we sell is water-based — wheat starch, neutral-pH PVA and methyl cellulose. We do not sell solvent adhesives, consolidants in solvent carriers, or anything that would arrive with a hazardous-goods label on the outside of the box. That is partly a safety position and partly a practical one: water-based products ship everywhere, by any method, with no surcharge and no ground-only restriction, and the overwhelming majority of binding and conservation work is done with them anyway.

We also do not sell tools we cannot specify. If a line is not on the site it is usually because we could not find a version of it we were willing to put our name on, not because nobody asked.

Cut to order, and what that means for you

Cloth and leather are cut from the roll and from the skin, to your order, in one continuous length wherever the order allows. That matters more than it sounds. Covering material joined mid-spine is a compromise you live with for the life of the book, and a skin is a natural product whose usable area varies — so we measure each one and state the area on your invoice rather than selling you a nominal size.

Made-to-size clamshell boxes are built to the object rather than to a nominal shelf size, with clearance worked out from the measurements you send us. They carry a stated ten-working-day lead time. We tell you that before you order, not after.

How we answer questions

By email, at support@syngyns.store, and properly. If you send us the dimensions of a text block we will tell you which board and which cloth, and if the honest answer is that what you are attempting will not work we will say that instead of selling you the materials to find out. If we do not know, we will say that too.

We are a small operation and that is the point — the person who answers your email is the person who packed the last order.

Syngyns LLC is a Texas limited liability company, formed 31 August 2026, filed with the Texas Secretary of State under file number 806774434. Stock is held and shipped from Frisco, Texas. We sell online only; there is no trade counter and no showroom, and we would rather say so plainly than have you drive somewhere.
