Description

A floor-standing press for pressing editions, laminating board and holding large work under sustained load. Four columns, a cast head and bed, and a long-handled screw giving a working stroke deep enough to take a stack rather than a single volume. This is the press a bindery buys once. The distinction from a nipping press is capacity and duration: a standing press is loaded, wound down and left, often overnight, and the frame is proportioned so that sustained load does not deflect the bed and dish the stack. The bed is machined flat and the head is tied to the columns rather than pinned, so the load path runs through the columns in tension instead of through a casting in bending. Delivered on a pallet, kerbside, unassembled; it wants a concrete or heavily framed floor and clear headroom above the handle sweep.
