Description
Cast-iron weights, powder-coated and felted on the underside, for holding work down on the bench where a press cannot reach or is not warranted. Lead-free by specification — lead weights are still in circulation in binderies and there is no reason to add one to a room where people eat lunch and handle paper with bare hands. The felt base is the working part: it spreads the load, stops the weight skating on a smooth sheet and means the weight can sit directly on a repaired area without printing the casting texture through. The powder coat is there so the iron cannot bloom rust onto paper in a humid room, which cast iron will do quietly and permanently. Sizes are chosen to be liftable one-handed up to 4 kg; the 7 kg is a two-handed weight and is meant to stay where it is put.
