Description

A bench board shear for cutting binder’s board, museum board and heavy stock square and to size. A shear cuts by shearing two hardened edges past one another; it does not crush, and that is why it leaves a clean square edge on 3 mm board where a guillotine or a knife leaves a bevel and a crumble. The blade is hardened and adjustable for clearance against the fixed bed edge — a shear that has been let go on clearance will chew board rather than cut it, and setting it is a five-minute job that should be done on delivery and then annually. A calibrated back gauge and a square side gauge let repeat cuts be taken off a set stop instead of a pencil line. Bolts to a bench through cast lugs. The hold-down must be used; the whole geometry depends on the board not lifting into the blade.
