A drop-spine clamshell box built to your measurements: two trays hinged into a case, so the object is lifted out of a tray rather than slid out against a wall. That distinction is the reason a clamshell is specified over a slipcase for anything of value — a slipcase abrades the covering every single time the book goes in or comes out, and over a century of ordinary use that abrasion is the damage. Boxes are made from binder’s board lined with buffered stock, covered in your choice of stocked buckram, and the trays are built to the object with clearance rather than to a nominal size.
