Linen Thread, Unbleached — 50 g Spool

Description

Unbleached linen thread, the sewing thread for a book meant to last. Linen is used over cotton and over any synthetic because it is strong in tension, it does not creep under sustained load, and it ages without becoming brittle — a synthetic thread will outlive the paper and then cut it, which is a worse outcome than a thread that ages alongside. Unbleached because bleaching costs strength and adds residue with nothing to show for it. The number is the count and the ply: 18/3 is heavy, for thick sections and boards attached by the sewing; 25/3 covers most work; 35/3 and 50/3 are for thin paper and repair, where a heavy thread would swell the spine out of proportion to the text block. Wax it or not to taste; unwaxed as supplied.
