Description

Woven linen tape for sewing on tapes and for the slips that anchor the text block to the boards. This is the structural connection in a tape-sewn binding: the tape passes through the sewing at every section and its ends are laid down onto the boards, so the whole weight of the book hangs off it every time the cover swings. Woven rather than cut from cloth, so the selvedge edge does not fray as the needle passes beside it repeatedly. Unbleached, neutral, and supple enough to lie flat under a pastedown without printing a ridge through the endpaper — a stiff tape shows as a line on the board for the life of the book. Sold in 10 m rolls; the roll length is chosen so a single roll does an ordinary edition rather than running out mid-run.
