Library Buckram, Pyroxylin-Impregnated — per metre

Description

The standard covering cloth for library and institutional binding, cut to order from the roll. A cotton base cloth is impregnated with pyroxylin, which fills the weave and gives a surface that resists water, handling grease and the abrasion of a shelf — which is what a circulating collection does to a book several hundred times. Impregnated is not the same as coated: the fill goes into the cloth rather than sitting on it, so the cloth still turns a corner and takes a joint without cracking along the fold. Takes PVA well; takes starch paste poorly, and that is a property of the fill rather than a fault. Sold by the running metre off a 900 mm roll, cut in one continuous length where the order allows. Colour is consistent within a dye lot; order the whole job at once if the covers must match across a run.
