Japanese Book Cloth, Fine Weave — per metre

Description

A close, fine-weave cloth with a paper backing, used where the covering must be quiet and the grain must not compete with the work. The weave is tight enough to turn a small corner cleanly, which is what makes it the usual choice for slipcases, chemises and small clamshell boxes where a coarse buckram would bulk at the turn-in and refuse to sit. Paper-backed, so it pastes without strike-through. Colour is dyed in the yarn rather than printed on the surface, so an edge or a scuff shows the same colour underneath instead of a white core — the detail that separates it from a printed cloth at roughly the same price. Cut to order by the running metre.
