Description

A turned beech holder that takes standard shouldered brass letters and line pallets. The handle length and balance are the specification: tooling is done by feel through the handle, and a holder that is too short puts your hand near the heat while one that is too long loses the feedback that tells you the impression has taken. Beech because it does not conduct heat back into the palm the way a metal or a dense tropical hardwood does. The collet is a plain screw ferrule with no spring — springs fail and a letter that shifts a quarter-turn mid-impression ruins the line and, usually, the cover. Fits all our brass letters and pallets. Two holders is the sensible minimum, so a second letter can be coming up to heat while the first is being used.
